We all know that our legal system has it’s flaws…but really, this is something completely new. On January 11th, Sal Esposito received an official summons for jury duty. Normally this wouldn’t be anything new; we all get summoned to serve on jury duty from time to time. However, there is one big difference with Sal…
….He’s a Cat.
Yes. You read that right. Sal the Cat got an official Jury duty summons to serve his community. Sal’s owners told MSNBC News that they believe the mix-up happened when they listed their cat as Sal Esposito (who is considered a valid member of their family) on their 2010 Census Report under “Household Pets.” Apparently, whoever was entering that data into the big computer in the sky, forgot to add that little foot note that to the report.
Oh, but wait! The true humor of the story does not lay in the fact that Sal the Cat was summoned to jury duty. The humor in it is that when his owners filed for is disqualification from future services…he was denied. His owners commented that if this cannot be resolved before the court date in March, they will make sure that Sal the Cat is not late for his court date and that he will be right up there in the jury box to serve his community with everyone else.
